Structural Engineering

- Structural engineering services involve analysis, designing, and detailing structures to safely resist applied loading ensuring buildings and infrastructure are robust, stable and building regulations and code compliant and economical throughout their service life

Assigned Certification

Carry out the services and obligations under the Building Control (Amendment) Regulations 2014 S.I. No 9 of 2014 and associated Code of Practice,
Undertake inspections and coordinate the inspections activities of others during construction, and to certify the building or works on Completion. 

Civil Engineering

-Civil engineering services involve planning, designing, and delivering infrastructure such as roads, drainage, watermains etc. 

Pre-Purchase Surveys

Pre-purchase property surveys assess the structural condition of a property to identify defects, risks, and maintenance issues before buying. They help buyers make informed decisions and avoid unexpected repair costs.

Health and Safety (PSDP)

Identify hazards arising from the design, Where possible, eliminate the hazards or reduce the risk, communicate necessary control measures, design assumptions, or remaining risks to the PSCS so that they can be dealt with in the Safety and Health Plan.  Ensure that the work of the design team is co-ordinated to ensure safety, Organise co-operation between the designers, Prepare a Preliminary Safety and Health Plan, Prepare a Safety File for the completed structure or receipt of documentation from the contractor and design team.

Expert Witness

Expert witness services provide independent technical opinions on engineering matters for legal and dispute resolution cases. They involve investigating failures, preparing reports, and giving clear, professional evidence in court or arbitration.

Conservation Engineering

Conservation engineering focuses on assessing, repairing, and strengthening historic and existing structures while preserving their original character. It ensures structural safety, durability, and compliance with heritage and conservation requirements.

Main Drainage + Storm Water

Main drainage services cover the design and assessment of foul and stormwater systems, including SuDS and flood risk management. They ensure effective drainage, regulatory compliance, and reduced flood risk for developments.

Ciaran O’Brien established OBA Consulting Ltd in 2009 after working as a director (2004) in a medium sized practice since 1995.
Ciaran also spent time abroad working on large scale projects in Australia & South East Asia, gaining valuable experience on high-rise projects.
